Is Zerker serious with this flat earth shit?

This is just a quick rebuttal to all the points John made in the "Trolling Callers with Zherka: Flat Earth and NASA Debate!" Just in case anyone is actually getting lost in this shit!

1. "At what altitude do you see curvature"

You begin to see horizontal curvature at about 35,000 ft depending on the weather conditions.

2. "All flat earth tests are done at 120,000 ft with corrective lenses"

This is patently insane! I can only assume that John is referring to the famous DogCam footage, which is taken at 120,000 ft with a lens that has no barrel distortion but as this video shows that footage verifies the curve of the earth! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVaIZ4Rp9ek&ab_channel=ecl%C3%ADptica

3. "You can zoom the sun back into view with a p900 camera"

No, you can't and nobody ever shows evidence for this assertion. If you film the sun as it disappears bottom up over the horizon no amount of zoom can bring it back into view, you can however bring it back into view by going up in elevation, this would be impossible if it had vanished due to perspective or if the earth were flat.

4. Same as 3. but for boats instead of the sun, Zerker pulls a neat little trick here though he says "you can zoom a boat back into your field of view" which is true if the boat has not yet been obstructed by the horizon. But if it has you can't and no flat earther will ever show footage of that happening.

5. "Can you have an atmosphere in a vacuum?"

The simple answer is yes, the problem here is one of understanding what a Vacuum is. A vacuum is just the lack of stuff. On earth when we create a vacuum air will rush in to fill the space but that is not because the vacuum is pulling air in, it's because the air pressure is pushing air in. The earth is a massive object that creates enough gravity to hold onto air particles, the vacuum of space has no force to pull them away, so we have an atmosphere inside a vacuum!

6. "Density and buoyancy explain why things fall."

This is an old flerf trope I haven't heard for a while, probably because it's so easy to break apart. Density is just the amount of stuff that something is made up off and how tightly that stuff is packed, density applies no force to anything and therefore can't make anything move. If density could make things move then why would a stone fall downward into more dense air instead of upward into less dense air? Why when it was on the floor would it come to rest as opposed to flying back up to the less dense air? And buoyancy. Buoyancy is so well understood that we can take the mass of an object and calculate how buoyant it will be in a specific medium, the problem for the flat erthers here is that to do that you have to know what the local gravitational force or g is, buoyancy requires gravity! When a helium balloon goes up it's not magic it's gravity pulling the heavier air below the balloon!

7. "Where is the edge of outer space"

The edge of our atmosphere is currently set at roughly 100km but this is called “an imaginary boundary” because the earth's atmosphere is a Pressure gradient with some very light particles reaching as far as the moon, this is of cause exactly what gravity predicts.

8. "All space photos are CGI."

Again this is easy nonsense to debunk, we have photos of the earth from space taken in the 1950s, decades before CGI imagery had even been considered possible. Plus the Himawari 8 satellite and NASA's DSCOVR:EPIC satellite sending images back to earth from deep orbit every ten minutes, given the size and accuracy of the images this would be impossible to fake!

9. The moon landing definitely happened we can prove this by looking at how many independent scientific institutions around the world use the lunar laser ranging retroreflector array that was left on the moon after the first moon landing to measure the distance to the moon!

10. "There's no scientific experiment that ever proved earth's in motion."

There are many! The first that proved the spin of the earth and has been repeated literally millions of times is Foucault's Pendulum!

11. "Why doesn't the earth rotate under a hovering helicopter!"

The helicopter inherits the momentum of the earth's spin and remains in that reference frame throughout the flight. Newton's laws of motion

12. "Michelson–Morley experiment proves that I'm right."

Now read the wiki, All they proved was that they couldn't detect the existence of the luminiferous aether! another thing that the flerfs will tell you is real without evidence!

13. "einstein the earth is an observable motionless plain- quote"

I was going to find the quote and show how it had been taken out of context but I can't find it so I'm going to assume it was just made up by a flerf and John saw it and repeated it without doing any research!

14. "NASA research papers use a flat earth."

This is true but not because the earth is flat it's because they are using Idealization (philosophy of science) to simplify their models. This is just a misunderstanding of the papers in question!

15. "Why do planes use a flat earth map?"

Well, obviously they don't. All the Air navigation systems on a plane use a globe. I can only assume he is thinking of a radar readout or something that could look flat! The fact is there is no such thing as a flat earth map. The Azimuthal equidistant projection that he mentions is of cause a projection of the globe in 2d! Oh, and the Azimuthal equidistant projection is not considered accurate at all!

16. "Zoom in to a planet and look at it."

This is a common flat earth trope where someone will zoom in on a planet completely out of focus and say "look it's just a light." This is just terrible methodology. Check out https://aaa.org/ Amiture astronomy association for some independent images!

17. "A compass is a flat earth instrument."

A compass has nothing to do with the shape of the earth other than we know how the Earth's magnetic field works and it couldn't work on a flat earth.

18. "You believe Nixon talked to astronauts on a landline telephone."

Nobody believes this, According to the AT&T Archives, "Simply, the call went from the Oval Office in Washington D.C. to Houston, where it was routed into space via Mission Control, through the capsule communicator, or CapCom.

19. "They've been caught doing underwater ISS Spacewalks."

The astronauts train in a Neutral buoyancy pool and NASA has released all the footage of this. It's not a secret and can't explain the footage of people on the ISS.

20. "Earth is pressurized it needs a cap."

I addressed this earlier the difference here is if we had a cap like the can why would there be a Pressure gradient?

21. "The sun and the moon are small the earth is big."

If the sun were small and local then we would see a change in angular size as the sun moved toward us and away from us, we don't. The sun is massive and very far away.

22. "The sun is electromagnetic."

All of the energy from the Sun that reaches the Earth arrives as solar radiation, part of a large collection of energy called the electromagnetic radiation spectrum. Solar radiation includes visible light, ultraviolet light, infrared, radio waves, X-rays, and gamma rays. This is true But the production of all that electromagnetic radiation is a huge ball of ionized gas that we call the sun!

23. "Mcdonald's has human flesh in it."

Undoubtedly true!
