Looking at this M340i. Decent deal for 48.9k CPO?

I bought mine new for $55k in 2021. It’s not x-drive though, but is essentially the same car but mine has the extended shadow line package and the wheel package (black rims, no RFT).
Nice, how do you like it? How is the ground clearance? Weird thing to ask but I do like going camping and occasionally need to go on some unimproved back country roads. Would that be a horrible idea with something like this?
I also looked at buying new but it was going to be like $65-70k for an equivalent 2023. Really rough
I would be very cautious going off road. There’s typical sports car front lower clearance under the front bumper. I had to get towed once, and the tow operator couldn’t get my car on the flatbed without scraping the bottom of the bumper.
Also with 35 aspect ratio rear tires, you risk damaging the wheels and getting stuck.

Not a terrible deal but could be ok if you’re only looking in your area. Got a tanzanite blue/cognac with 17k miles and all options (inc adaptive suspension) for 47.5 before tax last month. Granted I did pay $1850 for shipping from CA to GA, but was worth it as I got everything I wanted. I test drove a 2020 m340 without adaptive and would highly recommend it. I’d say keep waiting if you’re not in a rush, prices will continue to drop
Helpful info, thanks! I do look outside my area but I always hesitate because you really can’t tell some things through a photo, like smell/smoker’s car, exact condition of leather seats, etc… might be worth a gamble for the deal though.
I’m curious, in the 2020 model, is the non-adaptive suspension “always-on stiff/sport”, “always-on soft”, or just “somewhere in between”? Coming from a rattly rough X2 I’d much prefer erring on the softer side for now. Along with the extra horses, though! This one felt pretty middle of the road. Smoother/more solid than the X2 but still firm/stiff.
Hmm well if you’re also looking outside your area I’d say it’s a bit pricey. There are CPO deals for similar specced cars for close to $50k. Some with better colors than white. I’d recommend to stay glued to the CPO site for the next few weeks and keep looking. $49k is a bit expensive for this one not being CPO relative to other cars available on the CPO site.
I would also highly recommend to use a third party inspector even when buying CPO. I used Lemon Squad for mine last month even though it was from a BMW dealership (but non-CPO). The inspector took like 130 pictures and noted every single small blemish inside and out (light wear on driver bolster, stain on back seat, couple dings on the doors, all of which the salesman never informed me about and which I made the dealership fix as much as they could) so I knew exactly what I was getting and there were no surprises at delivery.
Adaptive suspension makes comfort mode more comfy and sport mode more sporty/stiff. Standard M sport suspension sits somewhere in between comfort/sport so it’s not as compliant when taking sharp turns or driving on uneven pavement. Didn’t have adaptive on my 435i, had adaptive on my 440i and M340i. It’s not an end all be all option, but I would definitely search for adaptive on my future BMWs.
Some deets. It’s a 2020 with 28k miles. Looks to be in excellent condition other than really minor typical leather wear and some paint chips on the edge of the passenger door.
The main pros for me are the trim level (essentially every single option other than adaptive suspension) and the cognac interior. I’m pretty crazy about that cognac color and this is one of the few ones that have come on the market near me with that particular interior color.
Drawbacks are that it’s white, and imo a little expensive for what it is. Another issue is that it’s a Porsche dealer so I’m missing out on some incentives that BMW is doing (return customer discounts, new grad discounts, etc). Their trade in estimate for my 2020 X2 is a little low too (25k).
Thoughts? Okay deal? Terrible deal? “Oh my god don’t get it in white”?
That's an okay price but has some room for negotiation since it isn't CPO.
Run the VIN through the service online to check for options. The good about picking a 2020 vs 2021 is the exhaust sound, though I've heard some other the lack of snap crackle pop that started in 2021.
Options to check for are the HK stereo, adaptive suspension, premium package (HUD), Driver assist, Driver assist pro, and executive package (Laser lights, etc). Note that in 2020 adaptive cruise control was available as a standalone option but that was rare and it is most frequently found as part of the Driver assist pro package.
Yeah, it has almost all of those options! Which was pretty impressive to see. Quite literally everything. Even the auto steer on highways. H/K sound was a must for me. The only option it doesn’t have is the adaptive suspension which is a bummer.
The exhaust has all the lovely pops and crackles. I didn’t know that 2021 model year started to get rid of that. I did test drive a 21 M440i a little while ago and I noticed it was definitely more….uh, reserved!
