Record my live performances

Hello all! Searching for info on the way to rig a multitrack recorder for a live performance has been tough to find. Looking at a simple 8 channel recorder, with direct line access to record While performing through my mixer, 2 guitars, one vocal and a few mics on drums. I’ve had this done in the past with someone i paid. Would love to do it on my own now. Anyone know how i could view a diagram? I feel like the recorder had our chords ran through it first and then they some how his cords went to the respective channels on my mixer. Is there splitters involved?
