Surface serial numbers

My company recently purchased two Surface Pro 9 devices for testing. Before I put them through AutoPilot I need to figure out a naming convention. Our typical convention is ABC-12-XXXXXXXX where X is the 8 digit serial number of the device. However I noticed Surface devices have a 14 digit serial number. For those that manage Surface devices, are the last 8 digits unique enough or do I need to come up with a different convention?
