Januarace #4: “Boat” Presenting: the Ruks

Day 4 of Januarace.

The Ruks(sing. form Ruk) are an older space faring species. They have generally pleasant demeanors and are quite benign and compassionate when it comes to dealing with other creatures, especially creatures that would be considered “animals” or non-sapient. A typical Ruk Spacecraft usually has at least 4 animals aboard.

The Ruks developed on a world with slightly higher gravity than most inhabitable worlds, perhaps moderately stronger than Earth gravity. Because they spend so much time in space and lower gravity worlds, exercise is an important part of their daily lives. A ruk’s most defining characteristics are their bright colors and large wings, defensive adaptations that their scavenging omnivore ancestors developed. They are vaguely a mix of bovine and canine in appearance.

Random Race Fact: The scientific name assigned to them by humans, Arkeus noah, is a reference to their behavior being similar to the biblical tale of Noah’s Ark.
