[Online][Flexible][UTC-7] Looking for a first DnD group as a present for my girlfriend.

I was thinking of using startplaying.games as a present for my Girlfriend but it was recommended I look here first. We have both expressed a desire to learn how to play DnD but we are both older (36, 47) and don't have a large circle of friends, and have zero experience with this sort of thing.

1. Would this be a decent way to get into DnD or is there somewhere else to start?

2. What will I need to get to prepare us for a successful first experience?

3. What do I need to get to prepare?

4. What else do I need to know that my ignorance is preventing me from asking?
