Should I do anything for this top sheet gash?

edit: Thanks for the advise! I ended up taking it to the shop and they're just going to cut the tag and epoxy over it. Quick and easy!

The gash appeared effectively under my binding after the second time ever riding it, not sure how. It feels smooth to the touch, though some of the paint had ripped off. Should I cut off the flap and wax it over?Are there some best practices for protecting my board while on the slopes?
