Coldest December in Reykjavík since 1916.

Weather & Climate

Fluff weather post. Been following the news since the storms rolled through. Use Chrome to translate:

Reykjavík's coldest record for more than a hundred years fell in December, but it was last colder in 1916. A meteorologist says it is too early to say whether it is the effect of climate change, but there have certainly been extremes in the weather in the last two months.

Also, overall the coldest December nationwide since 1973!

Snowfall/precipitation, on the other hand, was not particularly unusual by volume but its dry and light nature contributed to a lot of the problems seen with road closures and maintenance of infrastructure.

While they do happen in the winter, closures are not regular in Iceland so if there is one please respect it, because ICESAR is tired of dealing with it.

Always have travel insurance and plans b & c when in Iceland.

How to read the weather in Iceland.
