Seeking Advice for Treatment Options During Acute Condition Treatment

This is my first reddit post, albeit being an avid reader.

My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2021 and renal cell carcinoma in September of 2022. In 2021, the oncologist told him that they could remove his prostate, but in reality, he only had months to live. He had his prostate removed in Feb of 2022 and to everyone's surprise, we were told that he was miraculously cured and didn't need further evaluation. Being naive to the fact that once you have cancer, it's always around, we just celebrated this news while a bigger storm was brewing.

Fast forward to September of 2022 and he got very sick. We thought that it was the flu, and after 3 weeks of being told by his physician to walk it off, we took him to the hospital to learn that he had RCC that metastasized to his liver and lungs along with his prostate cancer coming back. He was told that he had a few months to live (by the same specialist that told him he was cured). We live in Indiana, but took him to be treated in Texas. He had two treatments of Opdivo and Yervoy and suffered a fall that caused a swollen knee. With his blood thinners, we decided to take him into the acute care center to be safe. That lead to 11 days in the hospital with a morphine tap and discharge to rehab with a stage 4 bed sore. He made great progress at the rehab facility. (He was having trouble walking and talking after his hospital stay.) On day 4, he had already reached his 2 week discharge goal, but that very night had a panic attack and went into afib.

He was taken to a local ER room where we learned the bed sore created a bacteria in the blood and was infected. He's been on an IV antibiotic drip while receiving wound care. He got off of the antibiotics today, but has been on bipap on and off to limit his PCO2 levels. We are told that he can't receive further immunotherapy treatments until his bed sore is healed and he is off of the bipap completely along with a completely healed bed sore. There isn't one doctor or NP that has consistently evaluated and now that he is off of the antibiotics, we're working to transfer him ASAP.

Here's where I'm struggling to see what should happen next. The cancer is growing in his lungs while he isn't receiving treatment. His scans clearly indicate that. If he could exercise, then his CO2 levels would decrease and the bed sore would heal faster. He's severely fatigued, but determined. He took 5 steps in PT today. He has denied ALL pain killers ad opioids to remain cognizant. We have asked about the possibility of a wound pack and skin graft for his bed sore, but are met with blank stares. Every day we are told that he should be intubated and placed in a medically induced coma. This is followed with a warning for us to say our final goodbyes because he likely won't come out of it. We've meticulously tracked the data surrounding his recovery since December 24th. At the rate of daily improvement, he should be able to run the Boston marathon by Sunday. (slight humor at the end...)

Does anyone have any "hands on" advice or experience? We're at a total loss. Is there a treatment that anyone is aware of to "stall" the tumor growth in the lung to allow the acute conditions time to heal for the regular immunotherapy treatment? Are there any solutions to the bed sore for faster healing? I understand the "reach" of this post, but we're fighters. Any advice is better than no advice. If anyone has went through a similar situation, I would love to find a way to connect you with my dad. I know that he feels like he's on an island that no one else has experienced. I am trying to maintain hope for him, but it spreads thin some days.

Thank you for taking the time to read through this LONG post.
