How many of you here plug your incoming coax cable into a surge protector?

I currently have my coaxial cable from the wall plugged into a power strip surge protector with coax surge protection hookups. My modem keeps defaulting to docsis 3.0 from 3.1 and I think it's due to the surge protector. Preliminary trials seem like it doesn't default to 3 0 if I run it straight to my modem. So do you all run your coax cable from the wall straight to your modern?
