how to use gamepad plus plus

I'm using gamepad and I have no idea how to bind things. The instructions tell you how to bind keys to match the controller but not how to actually bind items to the keys. I would like to hotkey things like weapons and clothing. I play far away from the keyboard so a mod that let's me do things solely on the controller would be great. Thank you.
