Good wood for chisel handles?
In search of suggestions for good material for chisel handles I'm making for my new set.
My first crack at these was with blanks I made from a 1 1/4" mahogany offcut. I chose mahogany because the offcut was a thickness I felt comfortable working with, and because it was cheap. And while aesthetics is not a priority for this project, I do think it looks nice. But I know nothing of its suitability as a chisel handle material. I found it forgiving to work with, another plus in its column.
At any rate, I made enough mistakes learned enough in what I now consider a $6 rehearsal to feel the right call is to start again. Maybe with something new, but maybe with more mahogany if there's a suitable offcut in the bottom of that bin.
What's worked for you all?
