PSA: GEHA's Login May Be Broken Depending On URL Used
Background
Since mid-December, I haven't been able to login to GEHA's website though the mobile app has continued to work just fine. Initially I thought it may be something to do with 2022 -> 2023 transition and since I could login using the mobile app, I didn't think too much of it.
Problem
- If you go to https://geha.com and click login and then member, it takes you to https://login.geha.com/
- If you go to https://www.geha.com and click login and then member, it takes you to https://member-portal.geha.com/login
- While the authentication portion on both logins works, the URL redirect of the first one takes you to a non-existent page (404 error) while the second one takes you to a slightly modified dashboard than what it used to look like
- Many search engines are still pushing the https://geha.com (broken) URL as the primary
My Attempt To Alert GEHA Of The Issue (spoiler: deaf ears)
I just spent 35 minutes trying to explain that this was their issue but finally gave up when they told me that even when you select the option for website support - you are just getting a normal customer care provider that handles claims and everything else.
- At first they tried to say that clearing my cache and cookies and rebooting the computer would fix the problem as it had with other customers (this is possibly true because of randomly changing www to non-www)
- Then they tried to tell me to try a different computer/browser but not to log on from work. When I asked why not to login from work they couldn't give me any answer other than we prefer you didn't.
- They said they would check with their supervisor to see if my account was locked. I explained it was not locked because the phone app and mobile website would allow me to login
- Finally they said - if you have tried all of that and it is still not working, then there is nothing else that we can do - sorry.
She did finally confirm that they updated the website on December 15th but that cookies/reboot fixed the issue for everyone else who called.
I patiently explained that this was easily fixed if they could get the development team to realize they have different website/links/redirects for www.geha.com and geha.com - she thanked me and said the call was recorded and someone would listen to it and take care of it.
What You Can Do
I absolutely have no faith that having more people call to explain the issue (and fix) will do anything. If you aren't having a problem, do nothing other than let people know who seem to have the problem. If you are having the problem - just type www and save yourself the phone call.
