AAM question

Hello!

After being a Ground RB player for a while I've recently started grinding up my Aircraft as well. Now that I am getting into my first aircraft that have AAM missiles I see people roll about 45-90 ° before firing their AAMs. I saw this too in TG Maverick against the 5th gens. Does this offer some sort of advantage? Like getting better tracking on your missiles or is it something people do in game too make it feel realistic as it is done in real life (or at least in a movie)?
