Brand new Barista Pro randomly not grinding

Just pulled my 1st couple of shots and then went to make a 3rd. The grinder sounded normal but like it was out of beans even when the hopper was half full. I had to open the lid and sort of push beans down into the grinder area then it worked. The next grind it did the same thing. It's like the beans aren't making it down into the grinder area? Is it normal to have to fiddle with it like this? I used to have a Breville stand alone grinder (Precise dose I think) and never had this issue.
