Pulling Myself Out of a Funk

Advice Needed

Happy New Year! The end of 2022/start of 2023 has been rough(er) for me + my anxiety. My boyfriend and I broke up after two years and I started to feel very cramped and anxious being in my shared apartment with two roommates and now, a cat my roommate brought back.

I moved to NYC almost a year ago but I’m still very far away from close friends and family which adds another layer of complexity.

With the recent events, my anxiety has gotten increasingly worse. I feel anxious even being in my room, which used to be a safe space for me. And now with a new pet in the apartment, I’m not in the shared spaces as much.

I guess my question with all of this is: what’s everyone’s advice to pull themselves out of a funk? How do you make things work even if you aren’t thrilled/happy about it? I don’t want to live my life feeling negative and anxious about everything.

Also, if anyone has advice about how they make their room feel like a safe space (especially a tiny NYC bedroom with minimal natural light), I’d greatly appreciate it!
