Thoughts on a lodging fee at a summer camp weekend wedding? How would you frame it?
We are looking at a summer camp venue. As the title suggests there are cabins on site that can comfortably accommodate our 100ish guests. The summer camp is about a 3-4 hour drive from 95% of our family and friends so all will be traveling. While touring the venue the director mentioned that nearly all wedding couples charge guests a lodging fee that goes towards the venue cost. The cabins all have electricity and bathrooms/showers and we would only use bottom bunks and single beds but it is after all a summer camp and not the most luxurious accommodation. The director said that they can arrange to collect the fees at check in via cash or check so we do not have to be involved. This lodging fee would help tremendously as the venue fee without anything included is over 20k but I’m struggling to get over the fact that we would essentially be charging people to attend our wedding. Future SIL says that if guests do not lodge on site they would be paying for a hotel which is true but I worry it won’t appear that way to guests. There will also be hotel options listed on our website so the camp cabins are by no means mandatory (totally understand that’s not everyone’s jam). How would you feel about paying for your lodging for Friday to Sunday ($125/pp for the weekend) and how would you frame this to guests on the invite/website? Of course 3 meals a day alcohol activities and such will be provided at the camp while attending for the weekend.
