Working while pregnant-venting session
Hi All!
I just wanted to take this time and vent about working while being pregnant. Now I want to start off by saying that I KNOW there are women out there who have it much worse with way more taxing jobs than I do, so I'm just going to preface with that- but it still feels good to bitch.
I do marketing for a really big tech company here in the US. I joined this company last year, specifically joining a team and a manager that I had interviewed for. About 2 months ago, our company went through massive layoffs and reorganization, and while I wasn't (thankfully) impacted by the layoffs, my team was dissolved and I was moved to a completely new team. This new team, of course, is extremely lean and need all the help they can get- which means a TON more work for me (on top of having to learn a new product, new people, new function etc). Its been hard adjusting to this new team that has all new processes and everything- especially since its not the team that I had specifically joined this company for. It's definitely not my "dream" job, but its a good job that pays extremely well, so I kind need it.
I'm about 25 weeks pregnant now and it's been tough. Thankfully, my pregnancy has been easy in regards to nausea/ morning sickness as I didn't really have any, but still. I'm tired, I have to pee every 5 seconds, my back hurts from sitting at this desk all day, i'm hormonal, constantly hungry and my brain just feels like mush. While my job isn't physically taxing, its 100% mentally taxing, especially when the team is so lean and there is so much slack that we need to pick up. Now my manager wants me to support our global groups, which means being on calls that are time zone friendly for them (sometimes I start calls at 5am, 6am, 7am or later in the day at 6pm, 7pm etc), and have to plan marketing activities and events in these global regions that I've never had to do before (which isn't easy to plan in US, let alone all these different regions). I was just on a call where my boss was promising my help to this team for events up until my due date and after (I think she often forgets i'm pregnant and will eventually go on Mat leave)
I'm literally on calls ALL. DAY. LONG and my manager is a big fan of always having cameras on (which I get for connectivity) but sometimes, I just wanna have my hair in a ponytail, sweats, lay back and not have to be "ON" and professional. She's also really awful with time management and all of our meetings run over, or she asks for us to "stay on a little longer" after meetings all the time and its just so draining, and then that cuts into lunch/ snack times, time that I plan to just decompress or get actual work done before the next meeting. I've tried blocking out my cal, but that never works
All I want to do is lay in bed and watch housewives or trash TV haha. Since this is a new team, I don't want to talk about my pregnancy too much, because I don't want to use it as a crutch, but man, sometimes I just wish my team would take it into consideration that I can't work at full speed like the rest of them.
Anyway, again I know that there are people that have it much worse than me and i'm not going to ignore that - It just feels good to have this safe space to vent and get out my frustration, especially since i'm not going to do it at work. If anyone else would like to vent, please share your story! We can be sisters in misery together haha.
