Progestin only options
I suspect I may have endometriosis after a flare of up severe back pain that radiates to my pelvis and legs during my period. I even had some tingling in my legs when standing. It’s debilitated nerve back pain and I basically had to lie down for several days until my period tapers off. I’m seeing my gyno next week to discuss my concerns.
I want to go to my appointment knowing my options. Im assuming I will be out on hormonal birth control of some type to alleviate symptoms. I do not want any containing estrogen though. I’m 43, done having kids, had my tubes removed in 2018, and I’m currently morbidly obese working with a weight management clinic. I don’t want or need extra estrogen. I’m already estrogen dominant enough carrying all this extra weight, not to mention I do not want to add extra risk of clots or stroke if I don’t have to.
So of the progestin only options, which is best? Are they all the same? Could I just do a shot in my arm and expect the same results as a mini pill? I really don’t want an IUD but I’m open to hearing if it’s the best option from people who’ve experienced it. Please let me know whatever you think I should know. I’ve been anti synthetic hormones for many years but now the back pain is so debilitating I need relief. Right now the only relief is for my period to end.
