Had a fall. Don’t know who to see.
Basically I slipped down some stairs at my house Saturday evening and other than sore and bruised I had a few other things. I mostly hit my right side. Bruised back of my right arm and ribs. Initially I lost hearing a few seconds in my right ear but I wear hearing aids and maybe that was why. Anyway, I couldn’t lift my right arm and my neck hurt pretty bad.
Fast forward to today: I can lift my arm now and it’s sore and my shoulder still is sore and a bit weak but my pelvis hurts quite a bit.
Background: I have some kind of AI thing, not sure what, but the X-rays my rheumatologist did was at my pelvis and low lumbar spine last year. He was looking for ankylosing spondylitis. Instead he said my L5,S1 joint has some deterioration like OA and my SI joints have thin spots but also some bone spurs. I was having pain and some numbness down my left leg to my foot at the time. He sent me to PT which I did for months and the pain in my leg seemed to recede but my pelvis- I am guessing it’s my L5,S1 joint, causes pain anyway and I’m quite unable to even walk when I get up in the morning for a little while. I think as long as I’ve kept moving I’ve felt better (except my knees and feet) but since this fall, I’ve had way worse pain when moving too. I was in my kitchen making lunch and it was only about 10 minutes but I really thought I would have to stop and sit down, which also hurts.
I’ve seen the rheumatologist twice last year, had an abdominal surgery as well that wrecked my abs, and now this fall. Should I see an orthopedic doctor for this stuff? My PCP doesn’t really know any of this kind of thing and just sent me to the rheumatologist after blood work came back positive for autoimmune. Plus unless it’s an insurance issue, I really don’t want to waste the time and money going to someone who can’t really help except a referral. I can go back to the rheumatologist but I am not sure this is his area of expertise. Any advice?
