Midazolam + Propofol for Upper Endoscopy - Sedation or General Anesthesia?

Physician Responded

I'm booked for an upper endoscopy next week, and the anesthesiologist said they would start me with a dose of midazolam, followed by propofol. The original paperwork I received from the GI said "light general anesthesia" (translated from French). The anesthesiologist confirmed I would lose consciousness and be sleeping, but that I would remain breathing on my own. I don't understand if what I'm in for is considered moderate or deep sedation, or general anesthesia. Does anyone know or have experience with this?

I'm a particularly health anxiety-prone person, but the thought of going through with the upper endoscopy without any sedation at all and just a throat numbing spray makes me very uneasy, so I opted to go to a private clinic for it instead that uses some drugs, but now I'm having second thoughts and am afraid of a potentially bad reaction to the midazolam or propofol.

Can anyone talk some sense into me? Should I just do it without anesthesia or just go for it?
