How do you respond to hate comments?

Hi guys, I am interested in getting some insight from the podcasting community. We've had a couple of snippets from our podcast go viral and that brought a wave of hate comments. Those are all along the lines of "eww they're ugly", just some rude sexist stuff, no constructive criticism. I generally just delete and block those users but I've been wondering if responding to them sometimes could be a good idea? Something tells me nothing really will come out of it even if we do a witty/sarcastic response, what then? But still, I'm wondering if ignoring is indeed the best strategy.
