Why do providers like Dr. Smith and Dr. Pruett require a visit every 30 days?

If ketamine is safe and I’ve gotten into a good rhythm with using it, why require monthly visits? Is it a safety thing, check if I’m not abusing the drug, etc? Is it required by the government? Seems kind of unnecessary?
