Considering Buprenorphine as final option to quit DHC
I am at my wits end trying to quit dihydrocodeine
I won’t dwell on the history, same story as many others, prescribed for back pain 5 years ago and has escalated from there, currently i purely use it to feel normal and stave off WDs, its become so much part of my life that i function completely; work, kids, household everything..in fact my life has somewhat improved generally over the past 5 years,
However i am either just taking it all the time (which is far from ideal) or trying to taper/cut down and dealing with intermittent withdrawals..RLS, sweats, anxiety and so on-which always ultimately fails. For the record my daily does ranges between 750mg to about 1200mg.. depending on various..
Cold Turkey is not an option, can’t take that kind of time off, tbh i can barely function 8 hours after a dose
I am considering buprenorphine but i know nothing about it other than what i’ve read on forums..i have a source of legitimate branded tablets. What would the recommended dose be given my current DHC intake, how often do you take it, how quickly do i taper down etc, how does it make you feel, side-effects etc, i.e will i be able to continue to function as normal, is this the right thing to do 😂
I would be so grateful for as much guidance as possible
EDIT****
Thanks for all the responses, seems pretty clear that this isn’t a route worth going down, i was expecting to hear this tbh! - so will persevere with the taper, going to try the DHC continus as i am trying to stick to 8 hourly intervals at the moment but the problem is it wears off after about 6 and gets pretty grim quite quickly, then another hour for the next dose to kick in, so in essence thats 3 x 3 hours a day i’m in withdrawal..which inevitably means i just fail by taking it more often. Hope the continus will give me 8 hours, i see its designed to last 12 so fingers crossed. I appreciate this means a lower amount in my system during the whole day (as want to stick to the same volume as i’m on now)- so expect milder wds all day, but they should be manageable.
Has anyone had any experience tapering with these
Thanks again guys, all responses were great
