Experiences with having a job during the semester?

I’m planning to get a job during the winter break, but I’m unsure how that will affect my academics during the spring semester. I have plans to balance both work and academics, but if you have a job, how do you schedule your shifts to not conflict with possible office hour meetings? I’m worried that I will not be able to attend office hours or school events based on the shifts I get.
