Everyone is anti-teenage pregnancy until it actually happens.

Rant/Rave

Very angry rant below. If you’d like to offer resources while I appreciate it, I’ve got that part covered. The only real barrier at this point is relatives trying to get her to change her mind. This is more just a vent about our messed up system.

I’m a social worker. My client is 17 years old with a 16 month old already. Why is it so fucking hard to get this girl the care she needs?! Why does she need parent permission?! Why the mandatory ultrasound?! Literally everyone agrees “teen pregnancy=bad”so how tf are we 21 weeks along with no goddamn appointment or funding. My state has a 24 week cap. Now the vultures are descending trying to offer her money to snatch up the baby. All the relatives talking in her ear telling her it’ll be fine, she’ll get to see the baby, “open adoption” all that. THERE ARE NO BIRTH PARENT RIGHTS IN THIS STATE. AND SHE SHOULDNT HAVE TO CARRY TO TERM WHEN SHE DOESN’T WANT TO.

I just don’t understand how as a society we universally agree teen pregnancy is this big issue and shouldn’t happen and then offer ZERO support to the unfortunate kid who ends up in this situation. I’ve scheduled 2 SAs for this girl both fell through because of her her family. Courts are dead slow and we can’t count on the judge override. At this rate she’s going to carry the baby just to give it up and be traumatized forever. She doesn’t WANT that. Nobody seems to care what she WANTS.
