Mortgage advice

EDIT: Thanks for the advice this far, I guess it's the cold feet getting me doubting the whole home owner malarkey.

I'm getting very close to deposit target and will be a first time buyer in NI, over Christmas I've developed this niggling doubt about getting a mortgage and owning a house, the voice inside my head keeps saying what's the fucking point having a mortgage over continuing to rent. What is the strongest, most solid argument you can give me for having a mortgage over renting? Please & thank you.
