Auto Mode for grinding

Does anyone else do this? Lately I’ve been grinding for exp, coins, and tokens with auto mode. So far, I’ve noticed that there is a limit on coins you can get, but it seems that tokens are unlimited.
Does anyone have any suggestions to make this process more efficient?

EDIT: I race in whistle position zero, as that seems the only way to get the racers to use the items they pick up.
