Wanted to make a big blanket…got more than I planned!
I picked the Rainbow through the Storm pattern on Etsy and I’ve been loving working it up - first time working on a blanket and it’s lovely!! And it’s also my first time setting out to make something big that I’m planning to keep for myself and my little family, so it’s a nice mental-health-improvement, serotonin-production project too.
I thought, hey, a nice big blanket would be great - something we could all curl up in on the couch! So I pulled out a full-size bedspread, laid it out, and chained enough stitches to match the SHORTER side - about 5 ft.
Well, something went wrong? right? But I’m 22 rows in now and realized that it seemed…big. I laid it out on the floor with a tape measure and the WIDTH of what’s intended to be the shorter side of this blanket is now exactly TEN FEET.
I didn’t measure the first chain, but it was 381 stitches on a 4 weight yarn - the pattern called for 175. I didn’t realize the chain would expand so much when you started stitching!!! Decided to take it in a positive light though - nice wide cuddly blanket incoming, I guess, but I think this is gonna take me a lot longer than a few months, haha!!
