Had my very first anaphylactic shock yesterday to a cashew I regularly eat.

My Symptoms

33F. I eat nuts ALL the time. I love peanut butter. I love pecan plaits. I love marzipan. I love pistachio ice cream. I eat pesto. I have never in my life had any negative reaction to them. I've never had any allergic reaction to any food in general. I've only been known to have post nasal drip, but it's unknown what causes mine.

Yesterday I ate a vegan cookie dough snack. The main ingredient was cashews along with chocolate chips, flour, and sugar. Halfway while eating the bites I noticed my lip felt tingly as if I'd eaten a jalapeno. Then my throat became itchy. I shrugged and continued to finish the packet. I thought it quite bizarre that something that should have tasted sweet tasted like scotch bonnet more like to me. Then 20 mins later I went back to my desk at work and my eyes were black and blue as if I'd lost a fight with Mike Tyson. Like my eyelids were bruised all over. No bruises under my eyes though. My breathing became irregular and I couldn't hold down water. My neck and cheeks were covered in a pink rash. My lips turned blue. Per the emergency health number I was advised to go to A&E.

HR asked me as I was leaving if I felt okay. I wasn't sure. I've never ever experienced anaphylactic shock before so I was more confused than anything.

My HR was very high and my blood pressure was very low. I waited four hours and was given antihistamines to take every 4hrs for 3 days. I've got a tree nut allergy test booked in the next two weeks.

I've contacted the snack company and they've confirmed no cross contamination has occured with the batch number I provided.

Had to take today off work because my eyes are still bruised in color and they burn as if they've been dosed in chili oil. No way I can stare at a screen for 8 hours. Hoping to go back tomorrow, but this burn will not stop.

Nobody in my family has a nut allergy or any known food allergies. My dad loved cashews when he was alive. It's just so bizarre that someone who eats cashew foods all the time would just all of a sudden have a severe reaction. The pesto we buy has 5% cashews in it. I've also drank cashew milk without issue.

Is it uncommon to develop a nut allergy suddenly? What happens if the test comes back negative?

The only meds I take are Beconase (7x a year at most) and a daily multivitamin.

EDIT: Here's my eye during the shock. It still looks this way. Google says allergic shiners usually happen under the eye so it's weird mine is only above.
