36F Corneal abrasion that keeps reoccurring, any options besides another Superficial Keratectomy?

Other

Me: 36F, white, don't smoke/drink/drugs except 40 mg citalopram & 10 mg zyrtec daily, 20 mg famotidine for acid reflux as needed.

History:

16 Jan 2021 - Initial injury due to piece of gravel flying into my eye, went to ER for treatment. It initially seemed to heal, but soon I was experiencing pain some mornings when I would open my eye. Ophthalmologist said that the new corneal cells that grew overnight were sticking to my eyelid and getting ripped off in the morning, which was causing the pain. He recommended SK, but I held off for a long time and just lived with the symptoms. Some mornings there was no pain, some I had mild pain, some were so painful I couldn't breathe at first; just froze and waited in agony for it to subside.

28 Jan 2022 - Finally did the SK. Eye was fine at 1 week recheck. No symptoms until...

22 Feb 2022 - Intermittent pain returns. Oph doc recommends repeating SK, but says he'll roughen up the surface more so the new growth has more to adhere to (if I remember correctly). I hold off and live with the intermittent pain, same as before.

09 Nov 2022 - Spontaneous complete return of the initial injury symptoms, horrendously painful, cannot open my eyes, have to go to ER. Different oph doc, treats it the same way as the initial injury - antibiotic drops, protective contact lens, ointment at night. I can barely tolerate light for 3 days. Everything looks good at 1 week recheck. I diligently put in sodium hypertonicity drops 4x a day and hypertonicity ointment just before I close my eyes for sleep. No symptoms until...

26 Dec 2022 - Just shy of the 6 week mark for when I can stop taking meds, the intermittent pain returns.

Original doc is still recommending second SK. I am hesitant because it was expensive and horrifically painful. I would be fine continuing to live my life with the constant drops and ointment and pain on some mornings, if not for the fear that I will again have a spontaneous complete reoccurrence.

Are there any other options for dealing with this? Anything else I should consider?
