2016 x3 - Phone will no longer connect as a media device

Hey all,

Just recently my BMW stopped properly connecting with my phone - a Pixel 4A - as a media device. I can still send and receive calls, but media won't play at all. It tries repeatedly to connect to media and fails. The two have been paired for well, years, and while I've had on and off trouble this is new.

I've tried re-pairing the two, updating the software (it claimed no update necessary), and in phone Bluetooth developer settings:

• changing the AVRCP version (to 1.3)
• toggling HD Audio,
• restricting connected audio devices to 1

Nothing has worked so far. Anyone have any advice or recommendations on further troubleshooting steps?
