Social Anxiety
So I’m 29 and have autism. One of my struggles is going anywhere or doing anything alone. It’s almost debilitating. I struggle so hard to even go on a walk by myself. I DoorDash food and get groceries delivered because it almost hurts to do those things myself.
And that’s ignoring the fact that it’s not incredibly safe for someone who passes as a woman to be going out alone. I simply have an insane difficulty doing it.
Even simply going for a walk, I’m fine until I come upon another person or they me. I get severely agitated and stare at the ground and shuffle away as fast as I can or even abruptly turn around to avoid them. I ducked onto a bridge to let someone pass the other day and they did a u- turn and ended up almost colliding with me twice and that ruined the rest of the walk for me.
Neurotypical people in my life tell me to just force myself to do things. I do not see that going well, let alone fixing anything.
What do y’all think? Any opinions/advice?
