The cult of MMOs?

Discussion

A few things first, I like FF14 I think it's a good game, and I purposely did not post this in the FF14 subreddit because I don't want them to think I'm attacking them with some kind of shitposting, or have this turn into something crazy because they do get triggered easily and I'm really trying to understand this and not start arguments. I honestly just want to really understand how this happened.

There is no other MMO, aside from maybe Star Citizen, where the people will get triggered if you say something negative about it. Tell people you think WoW has a crap story? Okay, no one cares, people won't mass downvote your post, in fact people will probably agree with you. Mention that GW2 fails at providing meaningful raids? Again, no one cares. Say something bad about FF14? It's like you're wearing a MAGA hat.

For the record, I'm a huge fan of Final Fantasy. I played the original on NES, and I loved FF2 on the SNES, I even played Secret of Mana, Chronotrigger, and all the actual Final Fantasy games up to 16. Some I liked more than others, some are just not that great to me, either way I don't want to give the impression that I'm some anti Final Fantasy person because those people are definitely out there. Clearly I'm a boomer, I'm older than most of typical MMO player.

Dealing with polarized FF14 players is something I've run into a lot on reddit and I can't get why they can't understand how people may not share their undying love for FF14 especially seeing most of them weren't even fans of Final Fantasy until 14 came out. It's baffling, I just don't get it.
