Mythology Newbie...kind of

Hello everyone, I am new to this sub-reddit, and I am so glad to have found this. As the title suggests I am a newbie to mythology kind of. The reason I said "Kind of" is mostly I have watched YouTube videos on mythology and read few books and I still feel like I have a huge gap to fill with my knowledge of mythology and the history behind them. When it comes to being involved in discussions with topics like this, I feel like I am having a Charlie Brown moment.

So, I am wondering do you have any mythology books for beginners? like giving a breakdown of what mythology is, what the purpose of it, the history behind it and why we have it. Thank you for the help and taking the time read this post and I hope to finally to be able engage with you guys on the topic of mythology.
