Require help/ Advice. Newbie.

Hello. My boyfriend (25M) consulted a neurologist for the first time today and was prescribed 20 mg of Retalin as and when required for adhd. He explained the symptoms like unable to read anything even with 100% focus, unable to pay attention in important meetings or to people even talking to him. He has been called for follow up on 13th Feb next. My concern is prescribing meds with only this much of information without any further tests or questiona. Is this sufficient information to prescribe meds? And what are the risks or concerns that come with taking Retalin? How should be the use regulated? Should he go for another consult?

I do not many things about adhd but coming from Bio/neuro background I can understand most things. Hence any help from people experiencing adhd would be helpful. Thank you.
