Good game development courses in Perth?

Where to find

May be moving into Perth from Melbourne later on the year. Figured that I'd ask here to see what are the options for recommended game development courses in Perth.

I've already looked into the options in Melbourne, and already have AIE as my preferred option.

Would you consider doing a more generalist programming course instead? The game developement industry in Australia is pretty limited - and extremely competitive.

There are many more people coming out of these "game development" degrees than there are jobs available.

For something that specialised and ICT focused, I feel you'd have better luck finding something well regarded that is available online rather than limiting yourself to Perth offerings.

That is a option to me, but for me who I am disabled. I can't do well when it comes to online learning, and have personally fared better when it came around with Face to Face learning.

Fair enough, best of luck finding something that fits the bill!

Teach yourself.

The only reason to pay someone to teach you is to legitimise your education so someone will give you a job.

Getting a paid job in Perth doing games development is practically impossible as there are no games studios here. So you are only gonna do it self employed, so you may as well learn it yourself too.

But if you really want someone to teach you, there is a Games Technology Bachelor of Science at Murdoch University.

It's basically the entire Compute Science degree but with the 3D graphics and physics simulation stuff thrown on top.

Game design is 90% useless, especially in WA. There is no local industry meaning you will need to move over east at least but more likely international.

The only viable way to get into games in WA / AU is via indie and the trick to that it do create, create, create.
