Just passed my drone pylote exam AMA

/s under new swiss rules I had to take an exam, get insurance, register as an UAV operator and put my registration number on my fucking 300 gram quadcopter to legally fly it lol, are they insane?

Shoulda just got the DJI Mavic mini. That fucker weighs 249g and just barely squeaks in under US laws. Perfect scam by them to grab a quick $900 from people.

We have the same <250g limit, but at least the license is free over here... That exam was worth it just so I can say that I'm a ^(drone) pilot on dates lol

I was also thinking of doing it purely as a joke to have on my certificate.

Yeah, that's pretty much why I did it. I live in the middle of buttfuck nowhere, nobody would care if I fly my little quad above someone's cow with no license. But I now have a pilots license ^for ^drones and a failed medical that prevents me from flying anything manned lol

is this a good path into the regionals?

If this doesn't get you straight to the captain's seat, I don't know what will. I mean, do all those plane pylotes not know that you're supposed to stay five kilometers away from all airports? Incompetent, I tell you!

Hah. Unfortunately in the Netherlands anything with a camera on it is a drone, so it doesn't matter how tiny the thing is.

Edit: I misread it. You just need to register with the DMV for a drone <250 with camera but don't need a licence.

I don't think you need a license for <250g though, just have to register it. Switzerland copied the EU rules so it should be the same for you as far as I know

1

Oh, yeah. My bad. I actually misread that. You need to register with the Dutch DMV but you don't need a drone licence for under 250g

To be honest it is confusing as hell. What you are and aren't allowed to fly in what category is the most difficult part of the test...

I have a Phantom 4 (waaay over the 250g limit) but I've been flying it no license for years. But I can still flex cuz I'm a ^Student Pilot. Have 22hrs in a C172

Is that anti-authoritarian behavior I see there? Drone pylote school told me that's bad, imma have to report you to the president himself

I think what I meant to add is that I was obviously flying indoors, where it isn't controlled airspace.

Lmao, I don't even think I could take it off indoors without crashing.

Your 172 only has one prop, drones have four, she left you for a drone pylote
