Hello good folks of this subreddit. I encountered a problem with my new Google Pixel 6 Pro while testing my digiscoping setup. As you can see I get these reflections or artifacts in my pictures and don’t know why or how I can possibly fix it. Since r/digiscoping is a smaller subreddit I thought that I could increase my chances to get a solution to my question by crossposting it here. I hope this doesn’t violate any of the rules here.

Thank you in advance 🙏

Thank you for your answer. By now I found out that I can kind of force the phone to use the tele-lens by switching between 16:9 and 4:3 while using 4x zoom. Do you know if there is a way to force the phone to use the tele-lens when not zooming? This would be important to me since the digiscoping adapter holds the phone in one position in which I have the tele-lens centered into the eyepiece of a spotting scope, binoculars or microscope.

Sure that it's no a reflection of one of your rooms lights/windows?

No. I got an answer from the digiscoping subreddit. It is the laser AF. Sadly I can’t get it not to show even when taping over it.

Edit: the reflections are weaker when the laser af is obstructed but they never fully disappear.

I was having major issues trying to take a simple picture of the moon with my Pixel 7 Pro yesterday (I've been blown away by the Pixel 7 Pro camera up to now), to add to the frustration, I couldn't digiscope with it through binoculars at all, which is something I frequently did without issue on my iPhone XR.

I just wondered if you knew why this is? Is it because there are multiple lenses/light sensors etc? I know my iPhone XR had a much simpler camera system.

Yes the multiple lenses make digiscoping harder in my opinion. I mostly tried to use the tele lens for digiscoping to use the additional optical zoom of the phone and to get rid of the black edge. The problem I had with the pixel was that the camera app doesn't have an option to manually choose or lock the lens you want to use (especially for darker pictures the phone always chooses the wide angle lens) so once I had my binos/scope aligned with the tele lens the phone often switched back to the wide angle. For me switching between 16:9 and 4:3 worked for forcing the phone to use the tele lens but only for maybe 4 seconds before switching back (I had a Google Pixel 6 Pro). I also liked the phone otherwise and the cameras we're pretty nice for other pictures but since I wanted the option to digiscope I exchanged it for another phone that let me choose the lenses.

Edit: I managed to fully block the Laser AF by taping over it after several tries. You can find out where it is positioned by using your camera app in front of a mirror.

Wow thank you for such a detailed response. I completely understand what you mean and this would explain some of the issues I had. Thank you again for taking the time to explain.

I'm actually not having any issues with the lens switching, it seems to stay at what I set it. My issue, is if I try and use the Tele lens through the scope, I just get static like pixels on the screen which is odd. I can never get any kind of picture.
