Why is there absolutely no overarching story/plan anymore?

Show Spoilers

I’ve made no secret over the years that the only season of Fear I genuinely think is solid is the third but even 1-2 despite their multitude of flaws at least had an overarching story and plan, the show genuinely felt like it was going somewhere (the Clarke family’s descent into villainy). All the characters too had consistently building arcs and there were a lot of overarching themes. How can even the most diehard reboot fans though excuse the lack of any semblance of overall plot/character/theme progression? The plot is completely episodic and there’s zero character progression because NOBODY feels like an actual living and breathing character with set goals/personality. Everyone in the main cast is literally just a walking chess piece they’re always doing complete 180s every other episode depending on the demands of the plot.

Honestly the completely aimless nature of everything annoys me more than the actual quality of the writing
