Shards of Oor HM help

Builds and tactics

My buddy and I are running though dungeons on HM for fun and to complete the book. We’re having a hard time with Shards of Oor, we each play Dervish and Sin respectively and typically just run meta builds(pious renewal or VoStr and whatever Sins run)After that we’ve tried to model our hero team after offensive mesmerway, tried a little RoJway but still have a lot of trouble with the damage spikes and just generally getting through without 60% DP. Any idea on a good hero comp with 6 heroes or should one or both of us go caster utility for SoO? We definitely kit our heroes out as much as possible.

Aside from using Asuran Scan to counteract Blind, Holy damage works well against many foes in SoO. Also consider casting Great Dwarf Weapon on each other, especially when battling Fendi and the Soul.

Gotcha. Sounds like asuran scan is a must and great dwarf weapon is a good idea too.

Speed clears of shards of oor use both assassins and dervish. However the sin roles are complicated for newcomers but:

The dungeon has extremely high blind durations and requires some good protection.

If you have an ST Rit set-up and micro it effectively, both melee players run Asura Scan to bypass the blind, you should be ok.

The dervish could also consider running Vow of Strength to prevent the blind punish but it's up to you.

Happy to give a hand also if that's something you feel would help. :)

Hm okay so microing our ST and Asuran scan to bypass the blind. I think we can manage that. I don’t run Sin, my buddy does but what build do sins typically run in SoO?

Sins use Dagger Spam A/D with Heart of Holy Flame

Wait a minute. Unless I'm mistaken, the damage conversion only applies to the base damage, not the +dmg from attack skills. Not sure doubling the base damage on daggers is particularly amazing. Or am I wrong here?

It does double all damage from attacks

As dagger spam go dervish secondary for heart of holy flame for holy damagw

Typical dagger spam (jagged, fox, blossom) should be fine but you could also try something spicier like a Run "I Am Unstoppable" to counter the KD also. Splinter weapon on a hero goes a long way, but again I don't know the party composition.

Are you finding you die quickly, or dying over longer more dragged out fights?

  1. Physicals need to have Asuran Scan in SoO or it's just a miserable time.
  2. Derv should run PR with Aura of Holy Might for AoE holy damage that bypasses blind.
  3. Sin should do dagger spam, because that's what sins do.
  4. Heroes:
    1. SoS/Splinter/SoH with Smite Hex and Smite Condition and Judge's Insight if you can fit it.
    2. 3-man backline: ST, BiP, ER ele
    3. Disruptive mesmers: Panic and Ineptitude
  5. If you're currently DPing out before even getting to Fendi, you're going to have a lot of trouble with him. It's very hard to win a fight going toe-to-toe with Fendi without either bringing a human mesmer or abusing spell immunity and cons. The damned crewmen do enormous damage with a bazillion copies of Clamor of Souls, and sooner or later your dom memser(s) will fail to interrupt too many copies (even with Panic), then your ST will burn out and put Shelter on recharge, and then you're toast. Luckily, you don't have to go toe-to-toe with him. Note that: (1) The archers always spawn at Fendi's current location, but (2) the damned crewmen always spawn at the archers' most recent prior spawn location. So you can entirely avoid the damned crewmen by pulling Fendi away from the archers' last spawn location before you kill him on each cycle. [Edit: This is probably the intended way to handle the fight, since Shandra's dialogues are all about breaking a cycle (hint alert!), and A-Net appears to have gone out of their way to give the damned crewmen a different spawning routine than the archers.]

Thanks for the detailed response, will definitely try that. Have gotten to Fendi once and it was indeed a miserable time. I’ve seen videos of people pulling Fendi out towards the bridge. Will have to try that.
