FTM and sex work (pre everything)

NSFW

I'm a ftm person and I haven't even started hrt yet. I've been thinking about venturing into sex work and my question is if I'll be only perceived as a cis woman until any visible changes? Or is there any way to be perceived differently?

I am not involved in the SW scene but:

  • The main clientele for SWers seems like it is men, and of those primarily cis and hetero men.
  • My trans brother is gay, and has talked at length about experiencing more transphobia in cis gay men’s spaces than in any other space with which he interacts, so cis gay men aren’t a panacea either.

Given these, I would posit that you are likely to have mostly cis het guys as customers. And with the current state of cis het guys, I would imagine many of them will not respect your true gender.

Your primary tool to combat this would be blocking/firing clients who don’t, but of course this impacts your income, so that’s going to be a constant balancing act.

All that being said, trans SWers are a pretty large group, so it’s entirely possible that you could tap into a network for that (you may have to do things like lean into kinks or something to carve out a niche, but it may be better than the alternative).

If you do decide to get into it, I definitely wish you the best ❤️ I would recommend trying to network with other trans SWers generally, and especially in your area if possible, they should be able to help a lot! Twitter seems to be a big place for trans SWers so that might be a good starting point.
