Is there any recent tutorials on how boardplay works? Is there a way to get out of boardplay or is it just pass?

The trick is, wait as long as you can to make a pass, you can choose to aim the pass left/right or behind you. If you have no teammates as an option just make sure you kick the puck out just before the second defender comes in to steal the puck, this will typically result in a holding penalty in your favor. When you are the defender using poke check will dig the puck out (sometimes) hope this helps.
