2 pound Pup ate a piece of onion

Call Poison Control

Help! My 2 pound puppy ate a little piece of onion (sliver off of a sandwich) on Saturday and started with explosive diarrhea yesterday. She is still playful at times but not like usual. Took her to the vet today but didn’t realize onions were toxic to dogs until leaving the vets office so I didn’t mention it. Now I’m freaking out, will she be okay? Plan on calling the vet first thing in the morning. From what I’ve read, seems like she ate enough to cause issues but not enough to be life threatening?

Some vets have after-hours lines staffed by vet techs that you can call. They can give you advice about what is or isn’t an emergency. If you’re in the US/Canada, you can also call the Pet Poison Control Hotline. It costs money but their advice is really helpful; they can tell you whether this is a likely emergency.

(I’m not a vet, just someone whose dog licked wet paint off of a wall one time)

Thank you! She is doing much better, ended up taking her to the E-vet , she was put on IV, something for diarrhea and vomiting.

I’m glad to hear she’s doing better! It’s scary when such a small puppy gets sick. I hope she makes a full recovery.
