Do you "need" to be good at micro to do well with Visage?

I'm pretty crap at micro. I can handle things like Chaos Knight or Phantom Lancer's illusions, or even charming a centaur with Enchantress and switching to him at the right time for a stomp. But when it comes to moving multiple units in different directions at the same time, I falter pretty hard.

Every time I play Visage (which is like 2 times for this very reason), I actually dislike using his ult because I see the minions as basically free gold for the other team. They have low HP and take a while to fall to the ground so it's hard to save them unless I just have the whole group (including Visage) selected and moving as a unit. Ctrl-click helps a bit for this, but I still feel like you need to be able to have them fly around and come in from behind to be useful.

Any Visage micro tips? Is it really necessary? I understand that Visage has a slow and a nuke to help him be useful regardless, but it doesn't seem like enough without using his ult effectively.

Edit: Specifically the hardest part for me isn't using their skills, it's moving them in the right place, which to me means moving them separately from Visage. Am I just supposed to send the whole group together? I feel like that leads to flaming and familiar death.
