Stupid question, but why do I see so many people looking for someone to send their carbs to for a rebuild?

Doesn’t that just mean taking them apart and cleaning all the passageways? At most, getting a kit and replacing some of the rubber/plastic bits? I’ve cleaned and put back together dozens of carburetors, what’s the difference between cleaning and rebuilding?
