To get in the car and drive...

The insane amount of courage a black man has to muster to get up in the morning and go outside and get in his car and attempt to drive to work, every single day, knowing that probably sooner rather than later he's going to be pulled over for being black and he doesn't know if he will make it out of that encounter alive. I can only imagine it's like living in a war zone every day of your life. The stress toll on the body and mind must be enormous for him and his entire family.

It’s not as bad as the media and other groups want you to believe it is. Every day, thousands of police interactions with black drivers occur without any incident at all, but that’s uninteresting and nobody cares. The stories you see on TV are the exceptions, not the rule. Because the truth doesn’t get ratings. If they reported the reality, nobody would watch. So we only see a fraction. Only the very worst parts.

Where are all the stories about white people being killed after a traffic stop, or being shot in their bed as they sleep, etc? I haven't heard of any.

I thought this was about whether a black man feels safe driving a car, not about how many times white men were shot by police.

It’s your post.

Anyway, as for why you don’t hear about cops shooting white men, its not because it doesn’t happen, it’s in large part because the media doesn’t like to cover it. Like this:

https://nypost.com/2022/12/17/media-ignored-black-cop-melvina-bogards-shooting-of-white-man/

Here are some stats.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/585152/people-shot-to-death-by-us-police-by-race/

Way more whites are shot by cops than blacks.

I wouldn’t hold the stats in high regards in my opinion. There is only more white people killed since the white population is a lot more than minorities.

According to the data, black folks are 4% more likely to be killed in a traffic stops.

Keep reading. OP’s point was that white people are never shot by police, but clearly they are.

…..and they are 450% more likely to run.

Riiiiight, that's my point. The media coverage isn't there because there's so little of it to report on. Not non-existent, but almost, compared to the violence against POC.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/585152/people-shot-to-death-by-us-police-by-race/

Number of people shot to death by the police in the United States from 2017 to 2022, by race

Year. White. Black.
2017 458 222
2018 459 228
2019 424 251

Nonexistent?

You haven’t heard about them because the vics are white. Doesn’t get the outrage.

2
Listen_more_OP•

The reason you don't hear about it, is because it happens rarely in comparison to how often it happens to Black people. Google it.

Police brutality is a problem but I don’t think its so bad that people worry about getting to work alive (maybe I’m wrong I’m not black)… though seeing police must be at least a little bit stressful

The fear is always there. You might not be thinking about it, but the fear is part of you, part of living, part of going about your day.

1
NobleJoe33AD•

If you live in daily fear like this you probably need to talk to someone about that.

1
Icy_Mousse_4144•

They didn’t say anything about living in fear daily, just the fear is there even if you’re not thinking about it.

Got my daily dose of stupidity. So thanks for that.

Ditto after reading this. You've had your head in the sand. Here's just one of the studies that have been done that show that people of color experience way more fatal police brutality than white people. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(21)01609-3/fulltext

Actually, millions of black folks do it every day. The key is to not break the fucking law.

5
Angel_OfSolitude•

People always seem to miss the context that police are (generally) responding to law breaking. People not breaking any laws are unlikely to interact with the police at all. That's not to say that it excuses wrongdoing, but most people are simply not in any danger.

2
Listen_more_OP•

You haven't been paying attention. Many black folks have been dying while they were literally minding their own business. No laws broken.

I think this is a little dramatic

When the stats are stacked against you, then you may think differently.

Calm down bud its not this bad

2
Listen_more_OP•

It's not bad that fellow Americans are living in fear?

1
Lonely-Posting•

Its not as bad as you are describing it in this post

1
Listen_more_OP•

Can you say this from 1st hand experience/ you are a person of color living in the US?

1
Lonely-Posting•

Yes

Whether it's more controversial or not is besides the point. It's true that black men get more police violence. And, yes, I'm supposing that it must be stressful to be black ink the US. That's not a big stretch.
