[NP] Paid parental leave work test exemptions

no politics

Has anyone had any success in receiving an exemption either on review or organised when applying for the paid parental leave work test?

My wife was made redundant yesterday with no warning or redundancy package (Small tech recruitment company), and is currently 6 months pregnant. While we can manage, and have saving amd a supportive family, this could not come a t a worse time in the pregnancy.

The work test to be eligible for the paid parental leave scheme requires you to work 10 out of the 13 months prior to the birth of your child. The timing of the redundancy means if our baby is born on the due date, we will miss this mark by just under 3 weeks.

My wife is currently looking for some temp work in any fields she has experience in, however is limited due to some pregnancy complications to very light, seated work. Essentially it has to be in an office or from home.

It's causing us a lot of stress so we are trying to get information from Centrelink to know if they make exemptions, however so far all we have been told no she would miss out and we could attempt to have the decision reviewed afterwards.

Would like to know if anyone has had success reviewing these sorts of cases, or has any advice for how to go about it. I'd ideally not like to deal with a case review right when having a new kid.

Did the company fold? Is an unfair dismissal claim in the works? Suddenly "made redundant" while 6 months into a complicated pregnancy sounds sketchy af. Sorry this is happening, as if this time of life wasn't stressful enough

From your post it sounds like the 330 hours are not the issue but just the duration of the work right? For the work test "You can’t have more than a 12 week gap between each work day in that 10 month period."

So she can wait the 3 weeks. And literally only have to work 1 day of work within that gap, as long as the gap between work is less than 12 weeks, and she will likely meet it. Maybe there is something on airtasker she can do for part of one day? It can even be literally 1 hour of work .

Since the 10 months of work can be any time within the 13 month period as long as the 330 hours are met there is some flexibility. Let me know if you have follow up questions about this, it can be tricky to give a succinct answer with PPL. I think this is more straightforward than trying to seek an exemption.
