Already back in soviet times the Soviet Russian Orthodox Church was operating as a vehicle for the soviet regime. The church conducted propaganda, infiltration, spying and other operations for the KGB and other soviet agencies.
And they still do continue that role today for Putin. In Russia, in Ukraine and elsewhere.
It is sad because millions of faithful were murder by the Soviets.

Yes. In my country Finland we are lucky the Orthodox church belongs to the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. Like in many other countries after WWII Moscow attempted to take over the Orthodox church in Finland but failed.

Sounds like he's made himself a legitimate target. I'm sure an argument could be easily crafted to show how he provides not only moral support but attempted legitimacy for the invasion and all of the attendant war crimes.

Russian Orthodox Church was used by the Kremlin beginning with Stalin as another means of state control. The KGB and state security services had ultimate authority at the top of the church. FSB took over that roll.
