Merlin the talent scout

Spoiler

After rewatching Lancelot for the uncountable time, I still think it’s hilarious and a bit of a stretch that Merlin tells Lancelot he could be a brilliant knight because he’s “seen him in action and he could shame the great Arthur himself”, despite the fact he’d only seen him stab manically at a griffin a couple of times before he could fully register who’d saved him, then the sword breaks so they have to leg it.
Merlin has seen so many men sword fighting up to now and can’t have seen Lancelot wield a sword since because Lancelot’s been recuperating from his wound. Merlin’s laying it in on kinda thick with the praise and Lancelot naively laps it up despite his modesty haha.
